Tiivistelmä:Internal priorities and decision making processes as well as macro factors such as national institutional context affect the way organizations identify and develop their managers. Although it is presumable that also cultural factors play some role in this, the use of cross-cultural analysis to management development practices is quite uncommon. One rarity is the framework made by McGraw-Hill and Irwin (1987) which identifies the cultural characteristics of Germanic, Anglo-Dutch and Latin models. In the article the framework is applied to a sample of 300 European companies and the empirical validity of these three models is tested. The authors conclude that some, but not all the features identified in the models are still true in the mentioned countries.
