Tiivistelmä:Middle managers have not been widely taken into consideration in the literature on resistance to change (RTC) although they are regarded as extremely essential to the successful implementation of organizational change. The article concentrates on the two well known key factors of RTC, namely individuals’ perceptions of the costs and benefits of change and their extend of participation in the change process. These factors are identified as the potential antecedents of resistance. The authors conducted a survey that included over 300 middle managers in an Italian electricity company, which had gone though a major change process in the late 1990’s. The results are in line with the main arguments of the literature, showing that both antecedents of resistance have a great influence on middle managers’ propensity to engage in the different forms of RTC.
