| Tiivistelmä: | In this article a simple signalling model is developed with adverse selection in which politicians differ in reform commitment but cannot credibly communicate with voters. Findings show that public support for market reforms is higher in countries where incumbents have taken deliberate steps to increase political accountability and juridical independence. |
