Tiivistelmä: | There are two explanations for why organizations should engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR): 1. the normative rationale (hereafter as: rte.) based on an appeal (as: b-on-app.) to ethics, 2. the instrumental rte., b-on-app. to business pragmatism. This paper argues a missing link to be the failure to recognize that the 1. and 2. approaches to CSR are underpinned by substantively, differentiating, relative logics of emotional rationalism (as: rtn.) on the one hand, and instrumental rtn. on the other. The paper makes a case that for CSR as a management practice (as: mgmt-p.) to be practicable and actionable within a sustainable business agenda, it will need ... to be reconstructed in the instrumentally, pragmatic (utlish) language of business. Otherwise, the whole CSR concept may continue to dwell in the realm of abstract theorizing etc. It is concluded that such an approach situating CSR within a pragmatic business lingua will help in legitimizing CSR as a 'neutral' mgmt-p. |
