Tiivistelmä:This article presents how parental education affects time in the paid workforce and time with children. It suggests that the effects are contradictory. Education might mean a pull to the market or a pull to the home. This study uses data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Time-use Survey 1997 and it offers a snapshot of how these contradictory pulls play out in daily life. University educated households parents are spending more time with children than other households in physical care and in development activities. Fathers with higher education do contribute more time to care of children than other fathers, although sex inequalities in care time still persists. University educated mothers contribute more daily time than other mothers to both care of children and to paid work.
