| Tiivistelmä: | This article explores the effects of network externalities in strategic R&D competition by proposing a two firm model where firms compete with prices and R&D investments in a differentiated consumer market, and buyers constitute company-specific networks which can be compatible. Price competition is alleviated by strong compatibility and vast spillovers because of weak strategic value of firm-specific networks and R&D investments. Differences in product qualities, contrary to the symmetric settings, produce networks effects. |
