Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores the willingness to support (hereafter as: WTS) action to clear up a public problem (here as: p-p.) through three studies. In the studies 1 and 2, people were asked whether they would financially contribute to solution of a p-p. In the study 3, the question was whether people would sign a petition to support a public action (as: p-a). It is hypothesized that the WTS for a p-a. is lower when evaluated in the context of a high - as opposed to a low - importance referent problem (as: r-p) or importance contrast effect (as: i-c-e.). In addition, it is also hypothesized that the i-c-e. is tied to the perceived relatedness btw. the target and r-p. The i-c-e. should be found only when the two problems relate to different category domains. The findings support this prediction. |
