| Tiivistelmä: | Using a comprehensive sample of nearly 7,000 firms from 1990 to 2004, this paper examines the corporate board structure (henceforth as: b-s.), trends, and determinants. It is found that b-s. across firms is consistent with the costs and benefits of the board's monitoring and advising roles. This paper's models explain as much as 45 percent of the observed variation in b-s. Moreover, small and large firms have dramatically different b-s. |
