Tiivistelmä:This study explores the performance implications of the alliance networks of nearly 50 firms competing for two technology standards in the U.S. local area network (herein as: net/s) industry from 1989 to 1996. During the competition to define a dominant design, individual firms attract the suppliers of complements by building alliance net/s to favour the firms' preferred technology standard. Based on the panel data analysis, it is shown that central firms with high ego net/s density, coupled with a strategic aim to acquire and share knowledge broadly within the technological community, reach better innovation performance etc. By demonstrating the independent and contingent effects of alliance net/s properties, it is explained herein how net/s patterns possibly enhance/limit the benefits of alliance net/s with focal firms embracing different innovation strategies.
