| Tiivistelmä: | The characterization of cost and production correspondences through the use of the translog and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models applied to the same empirical data is compared. Application of the models to a sample of North Carolina hospitals reveals several differences and similarities in the results. A more detailed examination of the reasons for inconsistency in the estimates of different types of models is indicated, for the finding of constant rather than increasing/decreasing returns to scale can have significant public policy implications. |
