| Tiivistelmä: | The use of financial portfolio theory to guide new venture planning is discussed and rejected. An alternative conceptual model of risk is offered that separates new venture risk into two distinct types - the risk that a firm will undertake a venture that fails and the risk that a firm will fail to undertake a venture that would have succeeded. This is more consistent with statistical inference and several other theories of risk and decision making. It provides a better understanding of entrepreneurial decision making and how planning can both reduce and increase risk. |
