Tiivistelmä:The rate of small business formation increases in years of relatively high unemployment. A major part of the founders of small businesses in UK desire for non-union status of the organization. Most of them try to establish good employee relations and working practices. The number and nature of individual work practices was investigated by means of postal surveys conducted in 1984. Small business founders are not a homogeneous group in their opposition to union recognition. Nine hypotheses was formed while seeking explanation for positive or negative reactions to the idea of union status. Some empirical findings about certain aspects of unionisation are summarized.
