Tiivistelmä:The riskiness of acquisition as a vehicle for corporate renewal is emphasized. Even as the merger wave continues unabated, managers and commentators disagree about its value - both to shareholders and to the long-term health of the acquiring firms. Although many factors contribute to acquisition performance, a variety of recurring patterns in the acquisition process offers clues to the disappointing results. Several myths that now dominate the debate over what makes for a successful acquisition are explored. It is argued that acquisition process itself is a critical factor in the deal's ultimate fate.
