| Tiivistelmä: | Division of work was one of the main subjects to be discussed during the Friedmann symposium held in Bruxelles in October 1987. Three marxian definitions of the division of work is examined, giving special attention to Friedmann's writings in which they had been reformulated. Three types of the division of work is distinguished: the societal, the organizational, and the task-based type. Consequences of work fragmentation on workers are analyzed. Various explanations to the following paradoxical fact is sought after: why do employees seem to accept an alienating situation? This was one of the most exciting questions which bothered Friedmann himself. |
