| Tiivistelmä: | An optimization-based logistics planning system developed for one of the largest suppliers of phosphate-based chemical products is described. The mathematical model underlying this system includes production, distribution, and storage facilities in a multitime period, multicommodity framework. The initial optimization model, formulated as a linear programming problem, was not approved. Therefore, an innovative modeling/solution approach was developed to enhance top management's understanding of the model and to make the problem more tractable for the company's computer. The first step of this modeling/solution approach decomposes the problem into a generalized network component and a small general linear component. |
