| Tiivistelmä: | The scientific knowledge concerning climatic change caused by the greenhouse effect is outlined. The main issues confronting conventional economic analysis of the greenhouse effect can be grouped under four headings: irreversibility, international and institutional constraints, uncertainty, and intergenerational equity. A model is presented which focuses upon intergenerational compensation for the expected losses caused to future generations by fossil fuel combustion today. The presented model shows three methods of achieving intergenerational compensation, namely investments in either capital or technology, and direct bequest of final goods. |
