| Tiivistelmä: | There are opposing views over the impact of new technologies on employment. The direct labour saving effect may depress wages relative to capital so that the final, indirect effect is employment creation. A disaggregated econometric model of factor demand in FRG is presented. The main results are the following:technological progress was in the 1960-81 period capital using, blue- collar labour saving, but results for white collar labour are inconclusive. There is a demand bias for higher qualifications. Blue-collar labour is a substitute for white collar labour and capital. |
