Tiivistelmä:One feature of the model is that the multicohort structure of the fishery is incorporated. The problem dealt with is more complex than those in most other applied models exactly because the fishery is treated as a multicohort resource, and because allowance is made for the low opportunity cost of excess vessel capacity when fish stocks are over-exploited. The model is used to investigate the extent to which overly restrictive quotas may be recommended for an open-access fishery if excess vessel capacity is ignored. A method of obtaining approximate estimates of the optimal time-profile of the catch of a fishery is explored. The model is applied to the southern bluefin tuna fishery by way of illustration.
