| Tiivistelmä: | It is widely known that international air-lines have been creating a lot of workstations and offices abroad. Therefore it is an important task of the personnel management of these companies to recruit executives for assignments abroad. The scope and duration of assignments are examined using empirical data from several air-lines. The procedures applied in the selection from candidates are reviewed. The elements of the preparatory training and later development are described. The serious consequences of wrong personnel decisions are discussed (loss of customers' confidence, conflicts, a break in the career of the expatriate). Examples from the practice of some of the air-lines are presented. |
