Tiivistelmä:One of the commonly advanced views of top management succession has been that it is a mechanism whereby the organization copes with its problems. Removal of the top executive and the selection of a successor are parts of the mechanism. Organizational performance is an important determinant of top management turnover. CEO (chief executive officer) turnover may be explained by performance or other, environmental, factors. Normal succession (as contrasted with the more dramatic performance-caused succession) may occur at the planned time, in the face of declining performance, but may be handled routinely by the board.
