| Tiivistelmä: | In the paper an attempt has been made to identify the various costs associated with a manpower planning system: recruitment costs, overstaffing cost, firing/retiring costs and retention costs. Two categories of recruitment costs have been identified, viz. fixed and variable costs. A manpower planning problem with the objective of minimizing the manpower system costs has been formulated. The model has been found to be analogous to the Wagner-Whitin model in a production/inventory situation. A numerical example has been given to illustrate the model. |
