| Tiivistelmä: | The harmonization of technical standards is one of the three major developments of the planned single market for Europe after 1992. These standards will likely have the largest impact, not only on Europe, but also on USA and other foreign firms trying to compete in the newly combined market. The complexity of standard harmonization and the importance of these standards will undeniably exclude the USA from the EC markets. However, the potential barrier can be turned into an advantage if the USA works to influence the process. Telecomminication and farm machinery are quoted as examples of the standardization's impact. |
