Tiivistelmä: | Social anthropology is concerned with the study of man as a part of his society. Every human being is irretrievably moulded in the common pattern of culture in which he or she was born and brought up. Social anthropology tried to discern features that are present in all societies and thereby discover the things that are universally true. Model of exchange, gift giving, charities are analyzed following the classic work "The gift" by Marcel Mauss. The current preoccupation with health is taken as an example to demonstrate how social anthropology can offer particular insights into the life going on around us. |
