Tiivistelmä:One of the most misused concepts in management, efficiency is examined. It was found that in most cases, striving for high efficiency reduced productivity and hurt the overall profitability of the business. Examples have been chosen from a manufacturing environment. Traditional business thinking and performance standards view people as static resources, expecting standard, almost machine-like performance. This view is unrealistic and damaging. It is concluded that individual businesses should be looked at with a new perspective, as a dynamic system of people and machines with an overall objective and an overriding optimum performance.
