Tiivistelmä: | Concern about employees withholding effort goes back to management pioneers such as Taylor (1911), whose scientific management was partly designed to eliminate systematic soldiering in the work force. The authors argue that propensity to withhold effort (PWE), the likelihood that an individual gives less than full effort on a job related task, is the common denominator of shirking, social loafing, and free riding. This article addresses an overriding question: how do contextual elements of an organization relate to PWE in work groups? |
