| Tiivistelmä: | Examinations of the role of competition in market exit have centered primarily on competition at the industry level rather than differences in competitive relations among organizations within industries. This research is an important step toward exploring the effects of contact across several markets on competition and market exit. The paper also demonstrates that organizations are capable of finer-grained adaptations to competitive environments as they can strategically exit particular service markets in lieu of a total shutdown. The multipoint perspective offers evidence that firms are able to structure their environments to reduce competitive pressures. |
