Tiivistelmä:In this study the authors empirically evaluate the effect of corporate ethical identity (CEI) on a company's financial performance. Drawing on formulations of normative and instrumental stakeholder theory, the authors argue that companies with a strong ethical identity achieve a better level of stakeholder satisfaction, which then positively affects the firm's financial performance. The authors analyze two dimensions of the ethical identity of firms: corporate revealed ethics and corporate applied ethics. The authors find in their results that revealed ethics has informational value and it enhances shareholder value, whereas applied ethics has a positive effect through the enhancement of stakeholder satisfaction.
