Tiivistelmä:The authors query whether government aid really helps the small business sector? One of the many expressed aims of government is to support the small firms, which are believed to be possible job-creators, and that they offset the tendency of industry concentration and that they are innovative. There is a difference of opinion between policy and small-firm owners. Two studies are cited, a survey of electrical and electronic industries and mechanical engineering. The findings seem to indicate that aid flows tend to favor the more successful firms - eg in electrical and electronic fields - rather than the more needy firms in mechanical engineering.
