| Tiivistelmä: | Concrete formulas are offered to tradeoff the costs of holding and disposing of slow-moving inventory in view of the probabilistic nature of demand and perishability. For many reasons, businesses will find themselves in an overstock situation. A unit is worth disposing if its immediate salvage value, what it presently can be sold for, exceeds its expected discounted sales value, from a future sale if it is maintained in inventory, less the cost of expected space and other holding costs until the time of sale. It is shown that the correct optimum number of units to dispose of can be determined by a relatively simple decision rule. |
