Tiivistelmä:Business Studies Degree students at Staffordhire Polytechnic were required by a School Meal Service to examine why decreasing number of pupils in the secondary school were taking school meals, and to make recommendations for an effective marketing strategy. Application of the life cycle concept and development of the school meal service is discussed. Fieldwork plan is presented. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used, raw data were analysed. Each stage of the research involved the use of different skills by students. They were required to learn these skills rapidly and use them with confidence. Valuable experience in marketing in the service sector was gained. Many student competences were identified and developed.
