Tiivistelmä:In 1985 Volvo started a new plant in Uddevalla for the assembling of cars with the aim to combine enhanced productivity and product quality with good ergonomics conditions and improved work organization. The plant was designed with a production system where parallel work teams assembled complete cars. Ergonomic analysis of postural and musculoskeletal strain showed that parallelized flow production was superior to the traditional assembly line. This knowledge and experience should be used in the development of future assembly plants.
