Tiivistelmä:The eco-efficiency (here as: e/e) analysis method developed and used by the Öko-Institut analyzes different alternatives fulfilling a defined consumer need, from an environmental (as: env-al.) and an economic perspective. Like life-cycle assessment (LCA), e/e analysis makes possible the setting of priorities in purchasing decisions or it applied for showing optimization potentials in product development processes. E/e analysis builds on 2 methods: LCA, according to ISO 14040 and life-cycle costing which results in a single figure, the total costs of ownership to one or several actors. The env-al. impacts can be evaluated and aggregated as a single score or ,..., be kept separate. In either case 2 single scores can be compared. The results can be plotted in 2-dimensional graphs showing the effectiveness of certain measures in env-al. and economic terms. The efficiency is expressed as a numerical ratio of env-al. savings to difference in costs.
