| Tiivistelmä: | The Russian equity market came of age in 1996. Prices doubled and range of investors broadened to include some of the world's largest institutional investors. At the same time Russia is a superpower and a emerging market. When its oil and other natural resource companies start generating earnings commensurate with the scale of their reserves, they will be giants. Rusian stock prices more than doubled last year , propelling Russian country funds to the top of the performance rankings for emerging market funds. The only class of investments that provided a better return were Russian debt funds: some debt-securities appreciated 200% last year. |
