Tiivistelmä:The role of 'noisy' selection and incomplete information on firm entry and survival are widely covered areas in the theoretical research on industry dynamics. This paper widens this research by exploring the effect of firm heterogeneity on employment impacts for 320 U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA). The results show that only start-ups with the number of employees ranging from 20 to 500 have persistent employment impacts over time and only in large diversified metropolitan areas. Hence, this study implys that both the type of entry and the characteristics of the region are essential for employment growth.
