| Tiivistelmä: | "I've known two different Taos", Yan Yushan says of his balding 50 year old friend seated beside him. The earlier Tao was a mild-mannered sort who worked for years at a state-owned worsted-wool manufacturer in Shanghai. Yan worked there as well as a mid level official and they often whiled away the hours drinking tea and reading newspapers. "He was nobody", Yan says. Second Tao emerged after 1992, when he quit the state-owned company to join Jiangsu Sunchine Group, an up-and-coming competitor in rural Jiangying. |
