COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
SCHEDULING

Tiivistelmä:This paper describes how companies can find a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talent through the strategic design of reduced-time schedules. A large body of research, which the authors review in detail, has established clearly that stressed-out employees want more nonwork time for themselves, their families, their communities/ or for focusing on quality work in fewer tasks. Furthermore, the real culprit is not the objective amount of time worked, but rather how employees feel about their work schedules, how they assess the tradeoffs involved, and how good the fit is between their actual and desired schedules. In addition, the authors identify strategies for initiating reduced-hours scheduling changes on three levels.
