Tiivistelmä:At the time of introducing the Television Without Frontiers Directive (TVWF Directive) there weren't much discussion about the possible need for food advertising regulation at Community level. However, because of the rising levels of obesity in EU member States, many stakeholders have suggested restrictions on the marketing of unhealthy food to children. This paper analyzes whether and how the EU could regulate the advertising of food high in fat, sugar and salt to children. The author starts by introducing evidence supporting regulation and continues with the potential contribution of the TVWF Direcive and the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMS Directive) to the debate. Finally, an overview of the broader regulatory framework concerning the present question is provided.
