| Tiivistelmä: | Recent years have seen information technology (IT) successfully applied to a wide range of corporate activities including office automation and telecommunications. IT is now seen as an important contributor to corporate strategy and a powerful weapon for improving competitive performance. Three basic ways in which the corporation can exploit knowledge-based systems are described. Some examples of knowledge-based systems are presented. With many successful systems developed over the past four years, the time is now ripe for the corporation to develop a coherent strategy to investigate and exploit this technology. The organizational implications, the impact and pay-off that can be expected are discussed. |
