Tiivistelmä:This editorial article deals with the present state of development of the global competition btw. high-technology centres with special attention to science parks (hereafter as: sc-prks.) as a development policy option and policy's adaption in major Asian and European countries and in the United States (U.S.) The article also outlines the development of sc-pks., clarifying the terminology of sc-pks. In addition, the functions, performance and new directions of sc-pks. are briefly discussed.
