Tiivistelmä: | There are both benefits and challenges to organizations from the emergence of cross-functional (here as: c-f.) virtual teams (as: v-team/s). This paper aims at exploring how the process of knowledge transfer (KT) takes place in a c-f. v-team. A case study is performed to interview various c-f. v-team members in one local subsidiary of a multinational telecommunication corporation and two of its hardware vendors, as well. It is found that four knowledge-sharing (KS) mechanisms are employed, incl. shared understanding (here as: s-u-stg.), learning climate (as: l-c.), job rotation (as: j-r.) and coaching (as: chng). Among them, s-u-stg. and l-c. are seen to be able to solve the challenge related to the unwillingness among the v-team members to take part in the KS process, while chng. and j-r. are argued to be the solutions for the lack of collective competence required for performing the co-operative works. |
