Tiivistelmä:Organizational exit is a much less studied phenomenon than organizational entry. Some unanswered questions and problems surrounding voluntary exits are overviewed. Four principal ways of leaving organizations are mentioned: lay-offs, dismissals, retirements and resignations. The last of them is examined in detail. Resignations so far have been given attention in terms of turnover research. The perspective of the organization loosing valued employees and the perspective of the departing employee were mostly neglected. Positive consequences of exits are summarized. The causes of voluntary exit of managers are highlighted. The problem of managing exit process is examined with a view to the role of career management.
