| Tiivistelmä: | This is a sociologic-philosophical study of TV watching as a shaper of time. It is based on oral survey of 37 people. TV is handling time in an abstract-linear way. Time does not matter: chips can compress time. As against this, the viewer has a limited quantity of time. TV watching needs no long-term planning of how to use one's time. TV may be watched parallel with other activities. Parallel TV programs may be registrated for later viewing on the recorder. TV organises family life. TV destroys the abstract linear character of time with its cathartic programs. People perceive time spent on TV as a waste. A typology of time structures. |
