| Tiivistelmä: | In 1993, real GDP of the industrial countries expanded at a modest rate of 1 p.c. During the second half of the year, however, the expansion accelerated due to a substantial increase of production in the United States. In contrast, the recovery in most Western European countries remained slow and unstable; after having picked up during the summer , economic activity in Germany and Italy declined again towards the end of the year. Meanwhile, the upswing in the United Kingdom has strengthened. Inflation remained low in most industrial countries. |
