| Tiivistelmä: | A substantial body of evidence indicates that the rate of inflation is positively associated with inflation uncertainty, both across countries and for the United States over time. Earlier studies leave an important question unanswered: Does an increase in the rate of inflation cause an increase in inflation uncertainty? If it does, one can reasonably conclude that greater uncertainty - which many have found to be negatively related to economic activity - is part of the costs of inflation. |
