| Tiivistelmä: | The viewpoint that inflation is a monetary phenomenon is considerably more widespread today than it was thirty years ago. It is generally acknowledged today, moreover, that inflation is controllable by the central bank over the long term. Why is the issue of controlling inflation a pivotal one for almost all economists working to implement economic reforms? The reason is not so much the immediate negative impact of price increases per se and the corresponding losses and inconveniences caused by them as it is the uncertainty for market participants as a consequence of high inflation. |
