| Tiivistelmä: | The Decision of Trade Ministers in Marrakesh earlier this year to begin a comprehensive work programme on trade and environment in the World Trade Organization (WTO) covering all aspects of the multilateral trading system - goods, services and intellectual property - has placed squarely on the table in the WTO a range of issues which , although they can be grouped loosely together under the umbrella of "Trade and Environment", raise widely differing questions for the future conduct on multilateral trade policy-making. One set of questions is the subject of this symposium: under what circumstances, if any, should trade be restricted because of the absence of harmonised environmental policies among WTO member countries? |
