| Tiivistelmä: | This review outlines the prospects for consumer spending over next 2-3 years. In addition, a longer term view is taken by considering probable growth patterns in consumption over the next eight years. The outlook for consumer spending in 1997 remains promising with an expansion in spending over 4% predicted to take place. Consumption is set to be driving force behind the economy in year 1997, although the growth rate still is below the rates recorded in the spending boom of 1980s. The consumption growth in the next 5-10 years is expected to average about 2-3 per cent a year. |
