| Tiivistelmä: | This is a report on the small electrical appliance market, covering food preparation equipment, microwave ovens and air purifiers and ionisers. Food preparation market has been most buoyant , reflecting the increase in consumer interest in food and cooking as a hobby. The microwave owen market has faced mixed fortunes; the high level of price discounting in the market has encouraged volume growth but has resulted in a decline in sales value. The air and ioniser market is small and remains a niche area. Between 1992-96 sales of food preparation equipment rose by 20% in volume and 25% in value to 1.5 mn units worth 53.7 mn pounds. The microwave oven market rose 17% by volume but declined 3% by value to reach 1.5 mn units worth 193 mn pounds. Sales of air purifiers and ionisers rose from 5 mn pounds to 7 mn pounds. |
