Tiivistelmä:This report examines the market for recorded music, defined to cover the principal means of delivering recordings to consumers for reproduction on players of CDs, audio cassette tapes and vinyl records. The recorded music market is estimated to be worth 1,850 million pounds in 1997, showing reasonable annual growth after a boom in early 1980s. The main stimulus has been the transition from the vinyl and cassette formats to CD, which has brought higher value sales and profitability for the recording industry and it has broadened the appeal of music with older music lovers returning to record shops to add CDs to their record collections.
