Tiivistelmä:A research of the effects of strategic alliances on the success of organizations in the USA’s computing industry during the years 1989-1993 shows that firms that have greater market power, capacity and greater measures of firm capital are more active in participating alliance activities. Secondly, self-selection seems to be an important factor that explains the impacts of alliance activity on firm performance. In addition, the control of self-selection alliances benefits the firms who are choosing them, but not as much as the firms core activities alone would do. The researchers conclude that without the controls of the alliances, the influences of the alliance activity are highly underestimated.
